I recently matted this character study for the art auction at the Reading the World conference. The lion is from the book, When the Library Lights Go Out. Actually, he was first developed as a puppet along with his good friends, Rabbit and Hermit Crab.

I posed the puppets to create the paintings for the book. The puppets were very cooperative models and seldom wiggled or asked for breaks.

I find children’s art irresistible! This artwork was part of a large banner given to me by the Orion School. I love the face and expression of the green fish and the tiny feet on the slouchy parrot.
